Check out the first look at Connected, the new movie

Entertainment Weekly revealed the first images of Sony's upcoming animated installment, Connected, which will tell the story of how a family must face a revolution in all technological gadgets while on a road trip.

Michael Rianda, screenwriter for Gravity Falls, will be the director of this film, and Phil Lord and Chris Miller, both involved in The Lego Movie and Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse, are the executive producers of this installment.

Connected seeks to unite the everyday life of a family trip with the characteristics of an action movie and the madness of a robotic apocalypse. "I wanted to think about the things I love the most, my crazy family ... and killer robots," Rianda explained.

The film tells the story of Katie Mitchel (Abbi Jacobson), a girl who has just been accepted to her dream university and wants to start the next chapter in her life, but her nature-loving father Rick (Danny MacBride) decides what to bring. Your daughter to college is the perfect opportunity to connect with her family and perhaps put the screens aside for a day. So the family consisting of Katie, Rick, mother Linda (Maya Rudolph), little brother Aaron (Rianda) and even the dog Mochi, begins a journey that will be interrupted by international technological problems with phones that become murderers.

"The technology revolution and the robot apocalypse do much of the action and comedy, but at the end of the day, the heart of it is the family," Miller explained. "It's one thing to fight in the apocalypse, and that's a fun premise, but it's much more interesting that your dad teaches you how to drive in the midst of the apocalypse."
